William Friend
Pelagic Progression

Pelagic Progression embodies the emotions associated with fragmentation of memories, loss of a sense belonging and optimism of a fresh start. Through the subject of aquatic activities, I juxtapose my separation from my childhood oceanic place of enjoyment against a bright future on the horizon, by employing the contrasting techniques of a monochromatic palate and colourful duotone wash. The secondary pieces demonstrate my artmaking journey and personal progression in understanding the tensions between the disappearance and re-creation of ideas.
