Red Earth Reverie
My Body of Work pays homage to the land where I’m from: the dry, red earth and rugged sceneries of central western New South Wales. It captures the serenity of the working farm, where dust settles into every crevice and the marks of labour are worn into every surface. Amongst painting, assemblage and drawing, I’ve explored textures, palettes of sun-faded reds and materials to mirror the physical and emotional toils of home;life shaped by land, labour and weather. Found fabrics, gunshot holes, red dust and ripped surfaces become symbols of resilience, survival, memory and decay, telling stories of place, people and the robust reality of life on the land. Australia’s rural prosperity has long been driven by the wool industry, with farmers at its heart and developing communities that have since been built upon the sheep’s back.
